-Very rocky
-Small beach area
-Low tide
-Many fish
-Birds scavengering
-Very shallow
-Some crabs
-Schools of fish
-All different sizes and shapes of rocks
-The area is knee deep during low tide for about a 200 meters
-Very busy with life
-In the deeper tide pool there are some strange bigger fish carcasses Small School of fish
Inferences
-May be a spawning area
-Fish may use this area to grow up and develop because this area looks pretty safe from predators
-Bigger fish may have gotten stuck in the tide pools and died
-Birds are preying on the fish
Good Place to Study
This area looks like a good area to study because of all the life there is. There is so much animal life. Schools of fish living there and growing up. Birds preying on the little fish. Crabs are scavengering all over the rocks. Nice tide pools form during low tide and many little fish are swimming inside of them. Everywhere you look there is life and every where you look there are abiotic structures too. That's why i think this is a good place to study.
Non Living
Observations
-Many rocks
-Rocks are where most of the fish are
-When its low tide fish stay in the shallow rocky areas
-When its high tide fish move to areas that are closer in and shallow
Inferences
-I think that the fish move to the shallower areas during high tide to try and keep safe from bigger fish and predators that can come in closer to shore during the high tide
Day 3
Observations
-Not many big fish
-Low tide
-A lot of little fish
-Fish don’t seem to stick to the rocks as much
-More birds are out scavengering again, now that it is low tide
Inferences
-Because the fish don’t stick to the rocks very much I think this shows that they aren’t as worried about predators, and I think this may be because bigger fish cannot get close because it is low tide. I’ve only seen small fish while walking around and observing today.
-The birds only seem to come out during low tide, I think this is because it is much easier for them to get food when it is low tide.
-I think another reason why bigger fish don’t come is because they cannot monuver as easily as the little fish because from about 70 to 80 feet from shore the water is only about 6 inches deep or so.
Testable Hypothesis
-If I could come to the site a couple more times when it is high and low tide and see how big the fish are that could show if the tide is influencing where the bigger fish go.
-Also if I could come a couple more times when it is low and high tide I could see if there is a difference in how many birds are around, and see if the tide affects them too.
-And for the other inference I had about the fish not being able to monuver I could come during low and high tide and see if there are bigger fish during high tide then there are during low tide.
